Recognition of International Dimensions in Schools (RIDS)

Nurturing Global Citizens at St. Augustine’s Day School, Barrackpore

At St. Augustine’s Day School, Barrackpore, we have always believed that education must transcend the boundaries of textbooks and classrooms to prepare students for meaningful participation in an interconnected world. Guided by our vision of holistic education, we strive to nurture young minds into responsible, compassionate, culturally aware, and globally competent citizens.
In keeping with this philosophy, our school is proud to be a part of the Recognition of International Dimensions in Schools (RIDS) Programme under the guidance of British Council. This prestigious initiative encourages schools to embed international awareness into the curriculum, helping students develop intercultural understanding, global perspectives, and essential life skills through collaborative and experiential learning.
The RIDS programme has evolved from the globally renowned International School Award (ISA) framework of the British Council, which successfully connected schools across more than 30 countries and benefited thousands of institutions worldwide. In India, the programme has played a transformative role in encouraging schools to integrate international dimensions into everyday teaching and learning.
St. Augustine’s Day School, Barrackpore embraced this vision in 2013, recognising that education must open windows to the world and expose students to diverse cultures, ideas, and perspectives. Since then, our school has consistently demonstrated its commitment to international education and has successfully completed multiple RIDS cycles, carrying forward a legacy of global engagement and educational excellence.
Under the RIDS framework, students from LKG to Class XII actively participate in curriculum-based projects that connect classroom learning with global themes, sustainable practices, cultural understanding, and real-world challenges.
A major highlight of our RIDS journey has been our successful collaboration with partner schools in the United Kingdom, United States, Kuwait and Romania. These international partnerships have enabled our students to engage with peers across continents through meaningful exchanges of ideas, collaborative projects, and cultural interactions.

Such partnerships have enriched the educational experience for students by

Promoting cross-cultural understanding and global citizenship
Enhancing communication and collaborative skills
Encouraging critical thinking and creativity through project-based learning
Building confidence, empathy, and mutual respect
Broadening students’ academic and personal horizons through authentic global interactions

By moving beyond theoretical learning and participating in real international collaborations, our students gain invaluable exposure to diverse perspectives and educational practices.
The RIDS programme has become an integral part of our school’s journey towards international excellence. Through these initiatives, our students are not only gaining knowledge but also developing empathy, leadership, environmental consciousness, and a deep appreciation for diversity.

At St. Augustine’s Day School, Barrackpore, we take immense pride in being part of this prestigious initiative, which resonates deeply with our mission of creating learners who are prepared to thrive in a rapidly evolving global society.
We extend our sincere gratitude to the British Council Education, India for guiding us in this enriching journey and for creating opportunities that foster international collaboration and innovation in education.
As we continue this journey, we remain committed to empowering our students to become thoughtful leaders, responsible citizens, and compassionate global changemakers of tomorrow.
